Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking the best Hilton Head rental home:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spring Escape: Value for Golf\/Tennis\/Pickleball, Family Getaways in best Locale! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
