When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
