Getting the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Updated Condo with Lagoon Views, Shared Pool, Hot Tub & WiFI - Near Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
