Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Lovely Light and Bright Queens Grant Villa! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
