Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Selecting and booking yourrental:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Second-floor condo in beachfront complex with pools, hot tub, tennis & gym has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
