Booking the best Hilton Head rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and choose your Hilton Head rental home:

  • To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Second-floor condo in beachfront complex with pools, hot tub, tennis & gym has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
