Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Palm-lined hideaway with pool, hammock, & spacious interior - dog-friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
