Vacation rental tips:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Palm-lined hideaway with pool, hammock, & spacious interior - dog-friendly has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
