Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental in Hilton Head:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Large Two Bedroom Villa Centrally Located within Palmetto Dunes Resort! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
