How to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family select the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Completely Updated Two Bedroom Villa with Large Open Concept! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
