Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful Oceanfront Villa! Beach side Heated Swimming Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is right for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
