How to book the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful and Well-Maintained Three Bedroom Home with Large Private Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
