Finding the best rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. 3rd-floor snowbird-friendly condo with pool, tennis, volleyball, gym, & balcony has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
