Our top Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Beautifully Updated One Bedroom Villa Great for a Couples Getaway! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
