Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Sea Pines Home w\/ Private Pool, Family-Friendly Spaces - Near Beach & Golf has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
