Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Private Oceanfront Home with Private Pool and Spa and Many Updates! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
