Hilton Head rental property booking tips:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Spacious Home with Gourmet Kitchen, Private Pool, & WiFi - Steps from the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
