Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Close to beach, pickleball, tennis & golf with private pool, & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
