Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Bright, newly-remodeled, dog-friendly beach house w/ a private pool & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
