Tricks and tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your family select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly condo with WiFi & washer\/dryer - close to beaches has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.

Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
