Our top Hilton Head rental booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking your prefectrental:
- Select vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 2nd Row Palmetto Dunes 5 Bed\/5 Bath Home with Private Pool and Beach Access has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. message the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
