Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beachfront beauty with pool access - fireplaces, jetted tub, balconies, & W/D has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
