Tips to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking the perfectrental:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 424 Captains Walk has panoramic ocean views located in Palmetto Dunes. has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
