Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and picking the right Hilton Head rental:

  • Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. 424 Captains Walk has panoramic ocean views located in Palmetto Dunes. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
