Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
