Finding the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- To find the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the best rental:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sunset Rentals
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is right for your family.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
