Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful Beachside Villa! Oceanfront Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
