Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Great Location with a great ocean view. Steps to the beach. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
