Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To find the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Stunning oceanview condo w/ a shared pool, hot tub, & tennis, plus beach access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
