Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

Get the best value:

  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Smartly Decorated Updated Two Bedroom Villa Walking Distance to the Ocean! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
