Finding the best rental home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Smartly Decorated Updated Two Bedroom Villa Walking Distance to the Ocean! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
