Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the best rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Secluded home & pool house with private pool - steps away from the beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your trip.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
