Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the right Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by having your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Roomy Villa with WiFi, Pool, & Hot Tub - Steps from the Ocean has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
