Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, change your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront Villa with Shared Pools, Hot tub, and Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
