Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking yourrental:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Villa with Shared Pools, Hot tub, and Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
