Our top Rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Villa with Shared Pools, Hot tub, and Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
