Tricks and tips to get the very best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your Hilton Head rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Charming upgraded 2 bed villa in Main Sail overlooking Shelter Cove Marina has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
