Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the right Hilton Head vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly villa w/ shared pool, WiFi, private washer/dryer, and central AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
