Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing a perfectrental:
- To start, have your group choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Golf Course Views From Your Private Deck! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
