Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Beach Getaway with WiFi, Pools, Hot Tub, & Ocean View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
