Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best rental home in Hilton Head:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 3 Bed/2.5 Bath South Forest Beach Home has Private Pool and Beach Access Path has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
