Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have deals for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Top-floor condo with ocean views, on-site pools, beach access, & sports courts has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
