Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Large Three Bedroom Villa Overlooking the George Fazio Golf Course! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review.
