Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:

  • First and foremost, have your family select the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Completely Updated Two Bedroom Condominium with Sweeping Marina Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
