Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful and Well-Maintained Three Bedroom Home with Large Private Pool! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. message the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
