Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Newly Updated Surf Court Villas Condo w\/ Big Pool - 1 Block to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
