Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Hilton Head Vacation Rental has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
