Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming Villa with Ocean Views, Pool, & Hot Tub - Walk to Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
