Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Large Sprawling Home Very Close to the Beach and Activities! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
