Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review.
