Tips to get the very best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking the rightrental:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Waterfront Penthouse Villa with Shared Pool and Ocean View - Close to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
