How to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxury Beach House w/Pool, Elevator & Game Room. has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
