Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from every room! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
