Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Hilton Head Resort condo with pools, hot tub, golf, sports courts & beach access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Have a great stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
