Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book the bestrental home:

  • To start, have your group choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautifully Renovated Oceanfront Villa w\/Heated Swimming Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
