How to find the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Coastal Condo with Pool, Hot Tub, Tennis, Fast WiFi, AC, & W\/D - Near the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. message the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
